Please read these guidelines carefully before submitting your manuscript. All submissions must comply with the journal's formatting and ethical policies.

Publishing fees (APC): USD 450 for high‑income countries; discounted rates (USD 150) for low‑income countries. Waivers available on request.

Color figures: Free in online version. Print version (if ordered) carries a nominal fee.

Data verification: The journal may request raw data to ensure reproducibility (see Data Verification Policy).

Your article must be within the journal's scope. Read the Aims and Scope before submission. The manuscript must be your original work, with all necessary permissions obtained for any third‑party material.

Submitted manuscripts are screened for similarity (using iThenticate). If the similarity index exceeds 19% (excluding references), the manuscript may be rejected.

All contributions are subject to editorial revision. The Editor's decision regarding acceptance/rejection is final.

Nutrient Cycling and Climate Change accepts the following article types (word limits inclusive of main text, excluding abstract, references, tables):

  • Original Research: up to 7,000 words, abstract ≤250, up to 10 figures/tables.
  • Review Article: up to 10,000 words, abstract ≤250, up to 10 figures/tables.
  • Short Communication: up to 3,000 words, abstract ≤150, up to 4 figures/tables.
  • Systematic Review / Meta‑Analysis: up to 8,000 words, abstract ≤250, up to 8 figures/tables.
  • Protocol: up to 5,000 words, abstract ≤250, up to 4 figures/tables.
  • Commentary / Perspective: up to 2,500 words, abstract ≤150, up to 3 figures/tables.
  • Data Note: up to 2,000 words, abstract ≤150, up to 3 figures/tables.
  • Case Study: up to 5,000 words, abstract ≤250, up to 5 figures/tables.

All article types must include a title page, abstract, keywords (5–7), main text, acknowledgements, funding statement, conflict of interest, data availability statement, and references.

Title: Concise, descriptive, and accurate.

Abstract: Structured (Background, Methods, Results, Conclusion) for original research.

Keywords: 5–7 specific terms.

Main text: Typically Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion (may vary by article type).

Materials and Methods: Must include details of experimental design, statistical methods, and, where applicable, climate data sources, soil/plant analyses, and modelling.

Results and Discussion: May be combined. Avoid repeating data from tables/figures.

References: Use APA style (7th ed.). List in alphabetical order. Ensure all in‑text citations appear in the reference list.

Figures and Tables: Embed in the text. Provide captions. Use SI units throughout.

Follow relevant EQUATOR Network guidelines (e.g., CONSORT for trials, PRISMA for systematic reviews, ARRIVE for animal studies). A completed checklist may be requested during review.

To ensure double‑blind review, the main manuscript file must be anonymized (no author names, affiliations, or identifiers). Include a separate title page with:

  • Article title
  • Full author names, affiliations, ORCIDs (if any)
  • Corresponding author’s contact (email, postal address)
  • Acknowledgments, funding statement, conflict of interest, ethical approval, consent, data availability
  • Author contributions (e.g., CRediT roles)

Suggested reviewers (optional): names, affiliations, and emails of up to 4 potential reviewers.

All submissions must include (on the title page or in the manuscript) the following statements:

  • Ethical approval: state committee and reference number, or “not applicable”.
  • Consent to participate/publication: if human subjects involved.
  • Conflict of interest: declare any competing interests; if none, state “The authors declare no conflict of interest.”
  • Funding: list all funding sources, or “This research received no external funding.”
  • Data availability: e.g., “Data will be made available on request”, or repository link. In line with our Data Verification Policy, authors are encouraged to deposit data in public archives.
Review Process

After submission, the editorial office performs a preliminary check. Suitable manuscripts are assigned to at least two independent experts for double‑blind review. The journal aims for a first decision within 4–6 weeks. If revisions are required, authors are expected to return the revised manuscript within 30 days.

Proofs

Upon acceptance, the manuscript is typeset. Proofs are sent to the corresponding author via email and must be returned within 48 hours. Only minor corrections (typos, formatting) are allowed at this stage; no changes to author list or scientific content are permitted.

Article Processing Charges

Low‑income countries

USD 150 (or waiver on request). Authors from countries classified by the World Bank as low‑income may apply for a full waiver during submission.

High‑income countries

USD 450 (no additional fees for colour figures or supplementary data). The APC is charged only after acceptance.
